Say no to junk calls, SMSs or deception
Each consumer has the right to comprehensive information. If it is withheld from you by any company or organisation, you have every reason to smell a rat.But you also have the right to privacy, which may not be violated by anyone without your permission or consent. Most people will know from experience that their e-mail addresses and cellphone numbers end up illegally in the hands of certain companies and insurers, who then inundate them with offers. You have the right to ask questions and to speak your mind. You have the right to say that you don’t wish to talk to them. You have the right to ask where they obtained your contact details. If you do talk to them, don’t hesitate to insist on detailed answers. Ask for instance: What do you understand under “Comprehensive Insurance”? What is excluded? Ask about excess payments, because excesses are often loaded in order to offer a lower premium. You may also request them to immediately stop sending you information. Be sure to note the name of the organization and the person who called you as well as the date and time of the call for future reference.
