There is a controversial argument doing the rounds in the newspapers since the city fathers ordained that all illegal street barricades such as booms, gates and fences must be removed. The decision has raised concerns of residents and should not be taken lightly.
The authorities say illegal street barricades sometimes cut off whole residential areas from the outside world, and obstruct entrance of emergency vehicles and refuse collectors, street lights maintenance, road repairs etc.
On the other hand residents say they’ll put up with the inconvenience and cost of hiring private security companies to man the booms, because it delivers a significant contribution to crime reduction — a task that the police have had mixed results with. References in newspapers and letters to murder, hijackings and rapes say that they could probably have been prevented if access had been controlled.
A bone of contention by many residents in areas where the booms have been removed is that their insurance premiums may increase. Fortunately there are brokers that will safeguard such clients. In this respect Integrisure has taken the initiative in assuring policyholders that existing premiums won’t specifically be increased or that cover will be curtailed due to the compulsory removal of street barricades. “Integrisure’s policyholders need not worry that their cover or premiums will now be affected,” says the managing director of the innovative brokerage group, Arnold van der Linde.
He does however invite policyholders to contact them as it remains of utmost importance that all policyholders’ short term insurance policies are up to date and that they are not under-insured and also to ensure that their motor insurance premiums aren’t too high since their motor vehicle values may have reduced. At the same time, policyholders must ensure that all cover information and special conditions are correctly recorded on the insurance schedule. The most common claim repudiations are as a consequence of incorrectly documented underwriting conditions, warns Van der Linde.
Integrisure already has a reputation as the leading broker specialising in the market for over-50s and it’s not afraid to take a strong standpoint in the importance of its clients in this regard. People in this age group are especially vulnerable to falling prey to crime since they usually present less resistance. They also, however, display greater responsibility with respect to their property and possessions, and tend to be more security conscious.
Those who live in areas where booms have been removed at least have the peace of mind that Integrisure will help them keep their optimal insurance cover with the most advantageous premium.
