Skade of verlies a.g.v. kragprobleme kan op verskeie maniere ontstaan:
- Elektriese of elektroniese toerusting of masjinerie wat beskadig word as gevolg van kragstuwings as die elektriese toevoer aan of afgeskakel word;
- Verlies of skade aan bederfbare goedere soos kos as gevolg van kragonderbrekings
- U is normaalweg verseker teen onvoorsiene en nie-voorspelbare gebeurlikhede. Beurtkrag val egter nie in dié kategorie nie, aangesien dit juis beplan word. Eskom verstrek byvoorbeeld
voortdurend inligting in die media en op hulle webtuiste.
- As kragstuwing skade aan u elektriese of elektroniese toerusting aanrig, is u wel daarvoor gedek indien u toevallige breekskadedekking op u polis het.
- Indien u toevallige breekskadedekking het en u vries- of yskasinhoud word sleg a.g.v. ‘n onbeplande kragonderbreking, is u gedek.
- As u ’n kragopwekker laat installeer, sorg dat dit deur ’n gekwalifiseerde persoon gedoen word.
- Onthou om u alarm gereeld te versien en te sorg dat u bystandsbatterye genoeg krag het.

Power Crisis. Am I insured against this?

South Africa’s electricity crisis has everyone hot under the collar – and the less power we have,
the more powerful we exclaim our discontentment. Some people are even toying with the idea of emigrating, because they only see the dark side.
But how does the electricity crisis impact on me personally? Against what am I insured?

Here are a few generally clarifying guidelines, though:
Damage or loss resulting from powerfailures may occur in various ways:
- Electrical or electronic equipment or machinery damaged by power surges caused by the switching on and off of electricity supply;
- Loss of or damage to perishable goods such as food as a result of power outages:
- Normally, you are insured against the unforeseen and the unpredictable. Load shedding, however, is not unforeseen, but deliberately planned. Eskom continuously provides relevant information in the media and on their website.
- If a power surge damages your electrical or electronic equipment, you will be insured if accidental breakage is covered by your policy.
- If you have accidental breakage cover and the contents of your freezer or fridge go off as a result of an unplanned power cut, you will be covered.
- Should you have a generator installed, ensure that it is done by a qualified person.
- Remember to check your alarm system regularly and ensure that the standby batteries are fully charged.
Risks are constantly on the increase.
